Our Academy of Workforce Development, Education & Business help curate the most relevant fundamental courses for participants in this program. We provide over 360 online courses that cover a wide variety of categories. These high-quality courses are taught by industry experts and deliver specific skills or knowledge that help to advance student personal or professional development.

Students can choose a 6-week instructor-led format, or a 3-month self-paced format. These courses average 24 hours and all courses start new every month.

Categories include business, computer skills, medical, soft skills, language, personal development, teaching, writing, and more. Some popular course titles include Keys to Effective Communication, Personal Finance, Skills for Making Great Decisions, Basic Computer Skills Suite, and Achieving Success with Difficult People.

Pre-requisite Tool prior to Career Courses: 5 Keys to Individual Excellence | 10 course hours. Self-paced. This course will be offered as a pre-requisite to the advanced career training and certification courses.

Successful completion of this course within the 2-week time-frame will determine each student’s ability to move forward into career courses by show of digital literacy, student commitment and ability.

Participants will develop career- enhancing skills in five popular seminar topics including goal setting, time management, stress management, personal organization, and creativity.

Career Online High School is an innovative 18-credit evidenced-based program that builds and develops a skilled workforce by re-engaging adults and Opportunity Youth back into their education.

 

The stated goal is to assist learners who have been traumatized by failure in previous academic settings, and prepare them for post-secondary matriculation and training, as well as for sustainability in the workforce. Students earn an AdvancED/SACS/NCA/NWAC accredited high school diploma (not a GED), as well as a workforce certificate from SHCOE in one of ten fields (including Food and Hospitality, Commercial Driving, Professional Skills, Retail Customer Service, Certified Protection Officer).

Instruction is self-paced, available anytime, and delivered online in interactive courseware that is both visual and read aloud to students. Everything is included – there are no books or additional materials required. Student transcripts are reviewed for transfer credit from their previous high school(s). Students will transfer an average of 8 full credits into the program (Maximum = 14 credits).

 

Most significantly, every student is assigned an academic coach who works with them to identify goals and possible obstacles. Then, using data to monitor pacing and activity, the academic coach motivates and supports students from start to finish. 

Our Academy of Workforce Development, Education & Business offers over 180 online programs, teaching to the fastest growing in-demand skills. All programs are taught by experienced subject matter experts and designed to provide training needed for entry or advancement in career 

opportunities. Popular course categories include healthcare, skilled trades, business, software, IT, management, design and hospitality. Selected high-demand courses will be chosen specifically to support participants in this grant opportunity based on local labor market data, student qualifications, career pathways and program success benchmarks.

• Advising: Students have a dedicated advisor who gets to know future career plans and sets academic goals to help the student reach their desired career path.

• Motivation: Advisors and instructors track student progress and will reach out to help students who are not progressing.

• Virtual Career Center: Resources for job search, career readiness, and resume/cover letter templates

• Employment readiness: Every career training course includes time management, resume writing, and job search training
